A Conversation on Starting a Physical Therapy Business

Today’s video is a snippet of a conversation I had with my previous CashPT resident, Dr. Tyler Shelton of Shelton Movement and Performance, before he opened his clinic.

We chat about some of the logistic stuff, which I know you guys ask about a lot. I hope this is helpful in some way!

In general, these are some of the things you’ll want to do before opening your cash-based practice:

  • Create an LLC
  • Get an EIN
  • Open a Business Bank Account
  • Find an Intake Form Software (IntakeQ is great!)
  • Create a HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices (with a lawyer like Gwen Simons!)
  • Find a Way to Collect Payment (GoCard Connect is great!)
  • Gather the Items You’ll Need for Your Physical Space
    • Treatment Table
    • Linens (with a way to wash them)
    • Stool
    • Hand Sanitizer and Gloves
    • Treatment Items (Balls, Needles, Bands, Kettle Balls, etc.)

Once you take action on these basics, then you can work on your marketing (the fun stuff!) and get people in your door.
