I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Lenny Macrina MSPT, SCS, CSCS. Lenny has been practice physical therapy for over 11 years and is a certified sports physical therapist. He believes that “the patient comes first, no matter the circumstances.” He owns Champion Physical Therapy and Performance in Waltham, MA which is a 100% cash-based physical therapy practice with his business partner Mike Reinhold PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS. In this training Lenny reveals what’s possible when a therapist works directly with and for patients, not for their insurance company!
In this interview we discuss:
- Lenny’s background and his journey into cash-based physical therapy private practice
- Their niche client and how they develop this strategy and market to their perfect patients.
- Their practice details such as: the number of patients they treat per hour, their documentation and EMR choices, their office set up
- How they coordinate patient care with the strength coaches working in their practice.
- How Lenny incorporates the FMS, SFMA, therapeutic exercise and manual therapy in his clinical approach to patient care.
- How they respond when patients ask “Do you take my insurance?”
- How they help their patients obtain reimbursement.
- His biggest struggles starting out.
- Lenny’s advice for someone who wants to start a cash-based practice.
- Questions from the audience:
-
- Do you treat any immediate post-op patients? Do you have a different charge for 1 x week patients vs. 2-3 x week ie: with post surgical patients?
- Do you generate the invoices on freshbooks to all the patients or only to those that will request insurance reimbursement?
