Exactly What Not to Say When Patients Come to Your Physical Therapy Clinic

In today’s blog post, I wanted to tell you about what happened to me the other day… and why you shouldn’t do it in your clinic!

I had a physical a couple weeks ago, and they told me they wanted some blood work done. I was fine with that, since I had been doing Keto and wanted to see how things were going.

So, I rolled down to the basement of the phlebotomy lab—a building that just so happens to have my grandfather’s name on it—and there were a few cubicles with privacy walls up.

A voice from above called me to a specific cubicle, and I’m immediately asked for my date of birth when entering. No, “Hi, how are you?” Just, “Date of birth?”

The woman didn’t offer me a seat or anything, even though there were a few there. Just asked me questions. It was ridiculous. It doesn’t take a lot of extra effort to ask me how my day is going.

To contrast that, I had a great first experience at Orange Theory. I had never been there before, but I was addressed by my name multiple times. Everything felt like it was about me.

The main way you as a clinic owner can differentiate yourself from the others is to be personable. Treat your patients like people.

That’s the lesson for today. Treat people like people. Is that so hard?
