What's Wrong with PT Insurance Reimbursement!

How do we convince patients to forego their insurance?

In today’s video, I talk about the problem with physical therapy insurance reimbursement.

In the beginning, people dismissed me right away when they realized they couldn’t use their insurance. I knew there had to be a better way to get them to stay. I tried treating people first, delivering an amazing treatment, but they would still be surprised when I didn’t take their insurance at the end. And they wouldn’t come back because they “couldn’t afford it.”

I realized one day that explaining to patients what their financial benefit would be to come see me wasn’t the conversation that was going to work. There’s no way we can convince patients to come see us. We just can’t. Insurance reimbursement is too enticing for people.

What does this mean? It means we have to have a longer conversation with people. We have to show them the value we provide and how it’s different. We have to show them the transformation they really want, and they will become our patients.

Insurance controls the flow of money and has say over how patients can be treated. That’s the problem with it. We can’t focus on that. We have to focus on how we can give patients what they need.
